The Killing Spree of Richard Speck Essay - 836 Words

The Killing Spree of Richard Speck Throughout the twentieth century, there have been many mass/serial killers. One killer who may be over-shadowed by the likes of Ted Bundy or Paul Bernardo, is Richard Speck. To some, Speck may be considered a lightweight in the mass murder world but to his victims and their families, he is a man of sub-human character. To prove his poor character, on that frightful night, while he was raping one of his victims he calmly said to her, Would you mind putting your legs on my back?(www.flashback.net/~slayer/speck.htm). Richard Speck was no stranger to violence. Before the frightful night of July 13, 1966, Speck was no stranger to violence. He was suspected in a number of other murders but was never†¦show more content†¦Frustrated and inebriated, Speck led the women into other rooms of the house where he proceeded stab and strangle each one. His final victim was raped before she was murdered. There was however one survivor, that being a woman who managed to hide beneath a bed, out of Specks murderous vision. After the one surviving nurse sought help, a massive manhunt began searching for Speck. The police spread out and believed that only someone who knew the area well could be in involved, since the townhouse in which the nurses lived, was not highly visible. The police searched high and low but did not turn up any hard leads. Meanwhile, Speck continued his binge with alcohol that night and ended up at a bar called the Soko-Grad. There with William Kirkland (a man he met at a previous bar), Speck heard that there was survivor from the massacre. Speck then turned to Kirkland and said, it must have been some dirty m-----f----- that done it(http://va.crimelibrary.com/serials/speck/speckmanhunt.htm). Still playing it cool, three plain clothed officers entered the bar, which Speck was in, asking questions about a tall blonde haired man. While questioning bar patrons, Speck left out the side door and got into a cab. Time passed and Speck knew that the police were on to him. Wanting out, he sl ashed his wrists with a wine bottle and was taken to Cook County Hospital where a nurse tending to his wounds, noticed his tattoo which read Born to Raise Hell, madeShow MoreRelatedThe Twisted Mind of a Serial Killer2301 Words   |  10 Pages sadistic fulfillment, childhood abuse, and genetics. Letter to a Soldier Life in the Trenches Essay Example For Students

Letter to a Soldier Life in the Trenches Essay To Cousin Nicholas, I have heard whispers of your decision to enter the war in service of our country. I pray that you know how proud we all are of you and your decision. Id like to share some words of wisdom with you that may save your life and give you hope for the rough and tumultuous months to come. You are going to be fighting in trenches. You will begin to loathe these places as much as I do, if not more. I have spent weeks at a time in these holes in the ground, forced to maintain their constant disrepair and fearing for my life every single second. The number of challenges that you will face just from the trenches will surprise you. Often times it is not the enemy fire that threatens your existence and sanity, but it is the quality of the trenches. You will have to suffer through all kinds putrid smells, terrible rotations, constant screams from wounded men, and temporary insanity. The rain is constant and miserable. For months at a time it would rain and we would not see the sun for days. The torrential downpour will not only ruin your mood, but also your trenches. The mud becomes a persistent, terrible problem. You will be constantly repairing the falling mounds and digging yourself out of holes you make. At points in the war the water in the trenches rose so high as to prevent us from sleeping for fear of drowning and we would have to wade through a meter or more of water for an entire day. Walking becomes an enormous task as you sink to your ankles or more with each step. You never feel fully rested enough to fight, but fear and adrenaline end up taking over eventually. The water also festers disease and bacteria because of the blood and excrements that end up washing away each day. Mortar fire is a constant presence on the battlefield and when a mortar hole is made close enough to the trench you will have to take it over and attempt to dig to your trench. Be wary however because many a man has died in these mortar holes from being sucked in by the mud and drowning before the others know of their whereabouts. One of the primary causes of my constant insanity was the rat infestation. Giant black and brown rats numbered in the hundreds in every trench we had. The rats would devour all of the corpses in the most grotesque way imaginable. They would start wherever the wound was and find their way to the intestines and the eyes. I saw movement from one body of my fallen comrades and rolled the helmet off of their face to see what was happening. To my disgust three rats had made their home in his skull and one even crawled out of his mouth. I ended up discharging my entire magazine into the rats out of pure horror and anger. Be sure to save your energy and ammunition when combating the rat plague. Use a shovel whenever possible to kill the rats who wander to near to you. During the warmer months a new infestation arises. The flies will descend in the thousands. The sheer number of flies distorts the view of the battlefield and creates a horrendous smell among the field of corpses. The smell is enough to make you sick at all hours of the day and it never gets better. The flies make short work of all the bodies and it conjunction with the rats will make scenes that you will never be able to forget and will haunt you until you die. .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 , .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 .postImageUrl , .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 , .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356:hover , .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356:visited , .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356:active { border:0!important; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356:active , .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356 .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8225f3686b1c549d0f79c8419709a356:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Concept Of Subjectivity In Accounting Accounting EssayMy commanding officer was at one point able to count 78 flies on just one of his arms when he awoke in the morning. After all of that torture that you have to live with, it is hard to imagine still going to war, but you must push through. Guns and mortar shells are constantly firing and eventually start to drive you mad. Snipers and marksman are a frequent concern for every squadron because of their constant presence. Snipers position themselves often before the sunrise every morning and watch the battlefield for the entire day. They have many devious tricks that you must be careful to avoid. First of all a sniper will never take more than two or three shots from one location so do not be tempted to track their location after the first few shots they loose. Snipers will attempt to trick you by leaving a helmet barely exposed or a rag to get you to fire at their supposed location just so that they can take you out first. Snipers are also very quick; they will be able to shoot a soldier even though they may only be exposed for a few seconds. Snipers will account for several hundred deaths per day so make sure to be smarter than they are and you will survive them. The enemy is constantly firing mortars more so in an attempt to produce fear it would seem than to actually inflict casualties. The fire quickens when an attack is near I have noticed so be wary of that. Mortars will inflict some of the worst wounds you will ever see on the battlefield, not always from the explosion, but because of the shrapnel. The shrapnel from these dreaded shells could lacerate, disembowel, and amputate men in the worst imaginable ways. I have seen men lose the top part of his head and have his brains exposed, get castrated, and have their intestines slide ride out of them all from shrapnel. These pieces of flying debris are unpredictable and horrifying. Worse still than any mortar shell or sniper fire are the machine guns. Our commanders often foolishly send up running in massive groups just to be mown down in droves by these terrifying machines. Three Germans are able to operate one of the guns and can hold entire squadrons at bay for hours until the barrel explodes. It is possible for us to lose hundreds of men in a few hours. I do not think the Germans even aim; we just make it so easy by running straight into their field of vision by the dozens. We even cut the barbed wire in the places we intend to charge days before the assault and this only makes it easier on them. Our commanding officers refuse to change our strategy for attack and we just keep losing men to these beasts. When not in combat some men will be sent out on patrols. Patrolling is nerve racking because you are out in the open and completely vulnerable. Patrols are not only vulnerable to fire from the enemy, but also to mud and water as I said before. I was on patrol once and my partner was crawling through what he thought was a shallow puddle of water. It turned out to be a mortar hole and he was swallowed by it immediately. I did my best to search for him without making too much noise so as to not be seen, but I never found him again. You are very intelligent and I know will become easily annoyed with the officers who think that they know best. You must find a way to prove your worth and talk to some sense into the officers so that you are not lead to the slaughter. The ones that send our men in waves just to be killed in seconds have no mind for strategy, not like you. .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 , .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 .postImageUrl , .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 , .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4:hover , .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4:visited , .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4:active { border:0!important; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4:active , .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4 .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8f975b6ba4859688c942403feddc05c4:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Peer Pressure EssayThe knowledge I have just shared with you is not what you will want to hear before you are deployed, but it may keep you alive. Knowledge Management and E Learning

Question: Discuss about the Knowledge Management and E Learning. Answer: Introduction: People are fast in changing their lifestyle, taste of choice, the art of living every minute keeping pace with this globalized world. Many types of changes has already occurred which has no similarity with the traditional procedure of those works. If the mode of learning is taken as the topic of discussion then it has already gone through several changes. The former pen and paper mode of learning is not being followed everywhere by now. The new process of learning that has emerged is named "E-Learning", in which one can learn things by internet surfing (Concannon et al. 2010, p.501). These types of learning help a student to learn from home which is the main merit of this learning process. From the Ford and Taylor scientific management e-learning material the two following blogs are written. The given e-learning material based on Ford and Taylor scientific management has shown the few important reasons due to which Ford Car is automobile industry mogul today. One of the key reasons is the time management technique used by the then efficiency expert of the organization Mr. Frederick Taylor. There was a use of the stopwatch to increase their tolerance level as he knows if there is no time bound target in a work the workers will put enough lethargy in their duty hours leading to the steady decline in productivity and progress. Knowing it well that it is natural human psychology and the no workers will deliberately do that, he bound them in time. Hence, such thinking has improved work efficiency in the better way (YouTube, 2016). One of them showed nearly four times hike in his efficiency to work than his previous work efficiency. Worlds fastest typist herself is the gift of that strict rule. Firstly the workers of that said the company never followed any haste to do their job, they usually did it very slowly though carefully. But it always takes a time bound hard work to flourish something. So they applied a hard work earn high pattern of a job (Duguay et al. 2013, p.1083). Even no employee is allowed to talk with any co-workers, and must leave a worker behind to complete his job if he is out of the work for some bio-breaks. This was the reason for an increase in their production thus could able to price lowering of the car. These changes get followed immediately with product sell hike and profit gain which brings extra bucks to the pockets of the workers. That was good news for them after much toil. British Airways as an organization on which the formerly said Taylors time management technique is being applied for the sake of discussion. It is known that no employee is going to take up extra pressure themselves (Drucker, 2010, p.79). So airways management board can impose some rules on employees such as they will have to come and start their respective jobs on time, they have to make sure that no flight delay due to any type of causality shown by the regarding staffs, if any seat is left vacant then a lot it as soon as possible to the passengers who need to board urgently. Such time bound and time obeying attitude can hike the number of efficient workers as well as the productivity. It will also help to increase the goodwill of the company which plays a major role in the progress and profit making a process of any business conglomerate. The material also showed the worker friendly attitude of Mr. Henry Ford, founder of Ford Cars company. It is quite natural phenomenon in every industry that they are always likely to be inclined towards the experienced workers (Witzel and Warner, 2015, p.45). But it was Mr. Ford who thought it in different style and his reason was no experience is needed to be an efficient worker; he just has to know best his portion of the work, rather knowing the whole procedure of manufacturing. He started to do this work by dividing the whole work into small parts and divided them into small group of workers; this helped to decrease the extra baggage of total manufacturing from the mind of the worker, so he now can just concentrate on his small part of job and increase his efficacy. Thus, the whole manufacturing steps were being done very attentively making the final product classy. In order to facilitate this process he thought further and invented worlds first manufacturing process using assembly line, at first it was manual then it assumed mechanical form and used to send the product chain wise to the workers who will do the next step of working on the partially finished material this reduced the wastage of time and energy of the worker due to changing their position here and there (Sallaz, 2014, p.299). This wise man also hiked workers remuneration to show gratitude towards their hard work as the company was flourishing, it was first of that kind from any company (Liebowitz et al. 2016, p.33). This worker friendly behavior inundated this organization with more application of workers around the world. British petroleum is taken as the organization on which the worker friendly behavior idea can be imposed. The workers of that company mainly handle with energy and petrochemical works. So the company need to give extra care on the safety of workers which will give them the support that company will take care of them in case of any workplace mishap. This mental support will help them to devote him properly and fearlessly to the work, giving rise to the productivity. Moreover, it is also a huge need to arm more safety measures in the whole unit so that the mishap can be avoided (Wang et al. 2010, p.1792). Apart from that, providing with more work friendly tools in the machinery will be good. It will reduce workers energy wastage; can better be used in his scheduled work. Conclusion: Thus, using an e-learning material proved to be fruitful. It shows that to flourish any industry it is necessity to take care of two things. First is the time need to be managed, so that work is completed in proper time. Pcs 2000 Essays - Michael Jackson, HIStory Past, Present And Future

Pcs 2000 Consciousness expresses itself through creation. This world we live in is the dance of the creator. Dancers come and go in the twinkling of an eye but the dance lives on. On many an occasion, when I am dancing, I have felt touched by something sacred. In those moments, I felt my spirit soar and become one with everything that exists. I become the stars and the moon. I become the lover and the beloved. I become the victor and the vanquished. I become the master and the slave. I become the singer and the song. I become the knower and the known. I keep on dancing and then, it is the eternal dance of creation. The creator and the creation merge into one wholeness of joy. I keep on dancing. . . until there is only. . .the dance. (Jackson 1992, 2) Artists have a special communion with the creative forces of the universe. Regardless of the medium of expression used, artists utilize creative energies to produce works of art, beauty and power for humanity to witness. This is evident in paintings, sculptures, films and other forms, but it is universally expressed and appreciated through music and dance. When an artist focuses on both of these forms, the rhythm flows from his heart to the rest of his body until he becomes the rhythm itself. This can be seen in the life of Michael Jackson. His forms of creative expression cannot be confined to categories, styles, or mediums. He is his own art, and messages are his mediums. Great artists are not exempt from the slings and arrows of fortune, and Michael Jackson is no exception. Fame and popularity have prices one must pay, and to maintain the glitter of glamour, one must compete for the limelight. Despite his infamy, Michael Jackson continues to attract audiences and impart inspiring messages through his music. Katherine and Joe Jackson were married on November 5, 1940, under the Jehovah's Witness faith, They soon began to raise their family in a quiet little city called Gary, Indiana. Nine years later, their seventh son, Michael Joseph, was born on the 29th of August. Being musically inclined, Katherine and Joe shared their talents among their nine children. The Jackson children soon began to sing at the church choir and perform at school programs and town pageants. Michael, who began studying at Garnett Elementary School already was winning various talents contests at the age of five. A few months later, his older brothers formed a band and decided to entere various talent searches and amateur contests. It was only a few years later that Michael joined his brothers to form The Jackson Five. Joe Jackson arranged for The Jackson Five to perform at small clubhouses for a few bucks a night. Their talents did not go unnoticed. After being discovered, The Jackson Five released their first single in 1968. In that same year, they released their second single. Due to its success, they performed in the same shows as The Supremes, James Brown and Sammy Davis, Jr. After a number of performances, The Jackson Five signed a contract with Motown Records. I Want You Back / Who's Loving You, their debut single with Motown, sold two million copies in six weeks and earned them their first gold record. As a result, The Jackson Five was invited to appear on various television shows such as The Ed Sullivan Show, The Johnny Carson Show, The Sonny and Cher Show and Soul Train. In 1970, The Jackson Five released their first long playing album, Diana Ross Presents the Jackson Five. This album topped the charts in both England and America. In the mid-seventies, The Jackson Five Show aired on television and their albums continued to earn gold records. Wanting to have his own career, Michael Jackson left his brothers and began recording on his own. Having been the front man for The Jackson Five for many years, Jackson's separation from the group caused their album and concert sales to decline. Michael's first solo album, Off the Wall, turned out to be a success along with the singles She's Out of My Life and Rock with You. Off the Wall broke records and sold twelve million copies worldwide. Jackson continued to outdo himself with the victory of his following albums: Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory Past, Present and Future Book I and Blood on the Dance Floor. Michael Jackson's success has not only generated more contracts and more popularity, but

Response Example

Response Example Response – Book Report/Review Example Response to Confessions Confessions were meant for those who admittedly did something wrong, and if there was no wrong done then saying something about it, even a confession done under pressure does not count as a confession, says Kim, a woman wrongly-accused of murder told an interview (This American Life). This was true in the cases that were discussed in the radio show about the nature of confessions, in which an officer that finds out he was guilty of contributing for Kim to make false confessions about a crime that she was innocent of, and that a man chooses to be silent about his innocence despite being accused and suspected of a murder. In the officer’s case, after forcing out a false confession from Kim and realizing that he contributed information that she used to create stories to jive with their investigations, he came to admit that what he and his colleagues did was wrong. To atone for this, this same officer did as much as he can to prevent Kim from getting senten ced, and after 20 years apologized to her for his mistakes (This American Life). His confession came about because he found fault with his actions after reviewing the interrogation tapes and saw evidences of the woman’s innocence.Confessing to faults come to those who realize that they did something wrong, and the innocents profess themselves to prevent them false accusations. But this was not the case for Jeffrey Womack, a man falsely-accused of murder, because instead of telling the public that he was innocent he only kept quiet about it, making him even more suspicious of hiding something. However, he reasoned out that because he did not do anything wrong, he does not have any reason to say anything, thus he simply kept quiet about himself (This American Life). Even long after the issue has died down, when the murder charges against him was dropped, and when the actually murderer was charged, Womack remained solid about his beliefs about what happened to him: that he has n othing to confess because he did nothing wrong; and by remaining silent he felt he was doing the right thing. He also did not blame the murder case in his life struggles and has come to accept that he must move on whatever happened in the past (This American Life). As such, the two cases support Kim’s stand on confessions: that confessions only count as confessions if something wrong was done and the doer admits to the wrong-doing freely, otherwise it is not at all counted as one. [Australian Undergraduate] Important Finance group project Assignment

[Australian Undergraduate] Important Finance group project - Assignment Example The construction would incur maintenance and utility cost from the drainage and the dike systems, the solid wastes and the recycling of materials that were not used after completion of the construction process. Besides, other cost associated with maintenance and utilities include the sewer system, water supply, operations and maintenance, constructions of the systems that still need polishing up and the salaries and benefits of the employees. The average daily cost is represented in the diagram below for all the utilities. These costs represent estimates computed for the first three months to obtain the daily cost in the first 90 days. However, it is likely that the amount may be slightly higher during the first one month. The values will fall thereafter with the third and fourth months and even subsequent duration recording lower values owing to the decreasing utilities and maintenance requirement. The breakeven analysis helps in the determination of the point at which the management can know whether the business attains a level that it makes neither losses nor profits (Tucker, 1963). It is also the point that the cost of production for the business equals the sales, hence no profit. Although breakeven is a firsthand tool for the assessment of the health status of the business by showing how the uncertainties may be critical for the venture, it does not capture market dynamics. Every market should be considered as dynamic because the trends may vary depending on several conditions. The changing trends dictate pricing and changes in the prices at large. Breakeven analysis does not take into accounts these trends, so it may give a general outlook that has an impact on expectations (Tucker, 1963). Since breakeven analysis involves adjustment of variables so that the values can give a figure of $0 NPV, and that each variable undergoes adjustment one at a time, it does not capture the possible effects that may influence two or more variables together.
